As per the instructions of the
federal government, the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) Limited on Wednesday
suspended gas supply to all industries including its power generation units,
fertilizer sector and CNG stations. In a statement, The SSGC said the decision
was taken in the backdrop of a possible onslaught of Cyclone Buparjoy and
keeping in mind the shortage of natural gas and degasified liquefied natural
gas (RLNG).
The Pakistan Meteorological
Department (PMD) said Cyclone Buparjoy is currently 370 km south of Karachi.
Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman has predicted that the cycle will hit
Katy Bunder at 11am on Thursday (tomorrow). A statement said, "From 7:00am
today (Wednesday) until further notice, gas the supply has been
suspended." The gas supplying company said it had sent notices of gas
interruption through email to all industry and CNG associations last night. The
