
Philadelphia, PA - A plane carrying sick patient and crew members crashed on Friday evening, January 31, 2025, killing all six people on board. The Learjet 55, operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, was en route to transport a pediatric patient and her mother, along with a pilot, a co-pilot, a doctor, and a paramedic. The plane had departed from Northeast Philadelphia Airport and was headed to Springfield, Missouri, with a final destination of Tijuana, Mexico.
The crash happened at 6:06 p.m., shortly after takeoff, near the Roosevelt Mall in the densely populated neighborhood of Rhawnhurst. A massive explosion ensued, engulfing several homes and vehicles in flames. Witnesses described a large fireball and a loud bang, followed by plumes of black smoke billowing into the air.
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker confirmed that there were no survivors among the passengers. She urged residents to stay home as emergency services worked tirelessly at the scene. The U.S. Federal Civil Aviation Authority (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
According to jet rescue air ambulances, Shai Gold shared that the child who was on board has received life-saving treatment at Shriners Children's Philadelphia and was on his way back to Mexico. The hospital has expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy; they claim that their patients are like family to them.
