India has a potentially illicit market for nuclear materials: Pakistan
A Pakistani Foreign Office spokesman said on the illegal sale of uranium in India that "Pakistan demands a thorough investigation into such incidents and the protection of nuclear material."
It should be noted that there was a case of illegal sale of six kilograms of uranium in India recently.
A similar incident took place last month in the Indian state of Maharashtra, which contained seven kilograms of uranium, a Foreign Office spokesman said on Friday.
Expressing deep concern over such incidents, he said, "It exposes the flaws in the nuclear material system and also shows that there is a potential illegal market for nuclear material in India."
"UN Security Council Resolution 1540 and the International Atomic Energy Agency's Convention on the Safety of Nuclear Materials require member states to prevent nuclear material from falling into the wrong hands."
According to a Foreign Office spokesman, "for world peace, it is also important to identify those who are illegally obtaining uranium in India."
According to the Indian Express, Jharkhand police on Thursday arrested seven people for trying to export uranium and sell it illegally.
Police said they recovered 6.4kg of uranium from the two men, but the man who sold the uranium to them could not be identified.
According to SP Chandan Jha, "they were arrested on a tip-off but have been sent to a laboratory to verify the mineral recovered."
