The match schedule for the upcoming
Hero Men's Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023 has been revealed by the Asian
Hockey Federation (AHF). The tournament is set to commence on August 3 and will
conclude on August 12.
Six teams, namely Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan,
Japan, China, and India, will compete for the top honors in this edition. All
the teams will be part of a single pool, and their positions on the points
table will be determined through a league system.
South Korea, the reigning champions,
clinched the title in the 2021 edition of the Hero Men's Asian Champions
Trophy. The tournament will kick off with a match between Korea and Japan at
the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Chennai.
Pakistan's campaign will begin on
August 3 when they face Malaysia in their opening match. On August 4, they will
go head-to-head against Korea in their second game. Their third match will be
against Japan on August 6, followed by a match against China on August 7. Their
last pool match will be against arch-rivals India on August 9. The semifinals
and the 5th/6th place match will take place on August 11, while the final and
the 3rd/4th place fixture are scheduled for August 12.
India and Pakistan are the most
successful nations in the tournament's history, with both teams having won
three titles each (India in 2011, 2016, and 2018, and Pakistan in 2012, 2013,
and 2018).
