Pakistan is requesting 5 million doses of Sputnik vaccine from Russia

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has requested Russia to help it procure another 50 million doses of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine.
The request was made by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi during a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Monday.
Qureshi reaffirmed that relations with Russia are a top priority of Pakistan's foreign policy. During his visit to Islamabad in April this year, Lavrov said: "We have several foreign partners to develop this vaccine. Therefore, this vaccine can be provided to Pakistan. As much as we can, we will help Pakistan meet the demand.
The first consignment of 50,000 Spintak V food arrived in Pakistan in March for the private sector and became very popular among buyers.
During the meeting, the two Foreign Ministers discussed issues of mutual, regional, and mutual interest, the Foreign Office said.
Russia has also recently lifted a ban on rice imports from Pakistan. Qureshi told Lavrov that Pakistan hoped that meetings of joint mechanisms such as political consultation, Pak-Russia IGC, and other joint working groups would resume once the situation at COVID-19 returned to normal.
He said Lavrov's recent visit to Pakistan reflected the desire of both sides to deepen their long-term multilateral partnership. Qureshi said Pak-Russia relations have made impressive progress over the past two decades and the two should continue to benefit from their cooperation.
He added that a major development since Foreign Minister Lavrov's visit was the signing of a protocol to amend the intergovernmental agreement for the development of the North-South Gas Pipeline Project (Pakistan Stream). The way to start soon will be smooth. Plan.
The two Foreign Ministers emphasized the importance of adhering to the decisions taken during the recent visits so that they could be transformed into concrete results.
The two sides agreed to work closely for early negotiations on the Afghan issue. Meanwhile, Pakistan on Monday elected a regular member of the governing body of the International Labor Organization (ILO).
