The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution in which Russia is recognized as responsible for paying reparations to Ukraine, reports Reuters.

The document was supported by 94 out of 193 members of the assembly. 14 countries voted against Russia, Belarus, China, Cuba, Iran, and Zimbabwe. 73 countries abstained, including Kazakhstan, Serbia, Brazil, and India.

The resolution proposes to create an international mechanism for recording and compensating for the damage that Ukraine has suffered and will suffer due to a full-scale Russian invasion.

This is the fifth resolution of the UN General Assembly condemning the war in Ukraine. Resolutions of the UN General Assembly are not legally binding, but reflect the opinion of the international community and have political weight.

The vice speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Konstantin Kosachev, said that the adopted resolution was "legally void", but it was encouraging that it was not supported by most countries. Dmitry Polyansky, Russia's first deputy permanent representative to the world organization, said it was "a fiasco for those who impose a 'rules-based order' on the whole world."

Andriy Yermak, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, commented on the resolution of the UN General Assembly: "Russia will pay for all its crimes in every sense - including reparations. From now on, this is the will."
